Dark under eye circles can occur from a number of reasons. Bluish dark circles are a sign of blood pooling beneath the skin. These dark circles tend to worsen with age as skin loses collagen, becoming thinner and more translucent. Brown circles are a sign of hyperpigmentation from chronic eye-rubbing, sun exposure or genetics. They are most prevalent among Asian and African American skin tones.
